the free art walk: preliminary details

Our Free Art Walk will take place on Friday, November 15th! (UPDATE: that’s tomorrow!)

FFF + Patrik Lundell Present The Free Art Walk

{ In case you missed the original announcement: Equal parts scavenger hunt, art show and culture walk, Florence for Free has teamed up with local artist Patrik Lundell for an interactive tour that is unlike any other the city has seen. Patrik originally hails from Stockholm and was recently featured in the The Florentine’s Expats in Florence. In addition to being a full-fledged artist, he also collects recycled pieces of cardboard, creates unique works of art on them, and then leaves the works around the city for explorers to snatch up each Friday. Considering his ethos very nicely matched ours (free, sustainable & art appreciation) we found it only natural to team up for a free art walk that celebrates the best of Florence, both past and present. }

Here are the details you’ll want to remember:

  • We will release the scavenger hunt clues on Friday, November 15th at 11 a.m. (Italian time) in a new blog post.
  • There will be 20 art history clues that lead to 20 locations. Don’t worry if you’re not an expert in Florentine trivia; the answer to each clue can be found in one of our past blog posts.
  • At each stop, if you’re the first to get there (or the person before you was kind enough to leave one behind for a straggler), you’ll find an original piece by Patrik himself.
  • When you find a piece, take a picture with (or of) it and tag #freeartwalk to help us keep track of artwork already discovered.
  • Spend the afternoon searching for as many pieces as you like. There is no specific route to the locations; instead, they are spread out across city center to give hunters starting in different neighborhoods equal chances at success. You can also do the walk at your leisure at any time of day, but remember that the first person to reach each spot will have first dibs at the artwork.
  • At 8 p.m. that evening, Patrik will be giving an artist’s talk at Volume, our favorite bar in Santo Spirito, which is currently exhibiting his work. Stop by after your walk to meet the artist himself, hear about his process, and get your artwork signed. Our in-country FFF friend, Megan, will also be there to chat with folks interested in learning more about our FFF team.

So! Next Friday morning at 11 a.m., you’ll have just enough time to pillage our archives for answers before heading out to scoop up an artwork over your lunch break. Or, if you prefer to start after work, you’ll have ample time to explore and then mosey over to Piazza Santo Spirito for the artist’s talk. Stay for a bit and toast to the spoils of the day – victory tastes so sweet!

Is there anything we missed? Do you have any other questions? Do you plan on participating? Let us know in the comments!
